Green Beans Puree with Chicken

By Chioma

Green beans puree with chicken

Green beans is nutritionally versatile because it is classified both as an excellent source of protein and also a vegetable. It contains other nutrients like iron and zinc, as well as a being high in fibre, thus a good one for constipated babies. Green beans is suitable for babies from 6 months of age and it is not known to cause any allergic reaction.

You can puree green beans alone to feed your baby as a first food if you want but i made this recipe with chicken to  boost the absorption of iron, and also added some carbohydrate to make it a more filling meal for babies. From 10 months up, you can give your baby green beans as a finger food to chew on by just boiling it or stir-frying.

Ingredients:

  • 8-12 stalks fresh green beans
  • 2-5 pieces small diced chicken breast
  • ¼ small chopped onion
  • 1 clove chopped garlic
  • ½ small chopped tomato
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 tbsp couscous or rice
  • Water for cooking

Method:

  1. Make couscous in a bowl by pouring boiling water on it, cover and allow to soak well for about 3-5 minutes or boil rice until done. Set aside.
  2. Place chicken breast in a pot. Add onion, garlic, tomato, oil and 1 cup of water, then cook for about 10-15 minutes till chicken is cooked.
  3. Cut the tips and ends of the green beans, wash and chop into pieces. add to the chicken and allow to cook for a further 2-3 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and puree with a hand blender with the couscous or rice until smooth.
